getaway girl: washington, d.c.

i had a hard time deciding on a destination for getaway girl this week. in the end, i decided on somewhere somewhat sentimental in honor of mother's day: washington, d.c., where my mom lived when i was born. she loved being there the couple years she and my dad were there when she was about my age. the eating and the drinking, the history, the daytrips to monticello, walking through georgetown pregnant with me. things she still talks about and remembers fondly.

so, thanks to her, i love the city, too, for being big city and small town at the same time. come to think of it, my mom, grandma and i celebrated mother's day there four years ago. wow, time flies.

loup charmant.

this is how i'd like my summer to look. and my hair, for that matter. now i'm inspired to go pick up some great cotton and make magic with it. but not that kind of magic. because i can't do that. or, i could just save my pennies, and get myself one of those lovely dresses. that sounds easier. this one is especially beautiful on the model.

in the mood for... skirts to die for.

amazing raffia skirt by matthew williamson and awe-inspiring volcano skirt from carven. you see that lava at the bottom, don't you?

getaway girl: london.

it turns out that this never actually published last week. so, i give it to you now. three days late to a wedding nearly three decades in the making. that sounds about right.

...

so you can be sure that if i'd been invited to the royal nuptials, i'd have had fun with it. but since i wasn't, i suppose i'll just save this for a rainy day.

twigs & honey.

i'm charmed by veils today. can you guess why?

how many of you braved the early morning to watch will & kate tie the knot? yeah, i'm guilty, too. what were your thoughts? it made me want to be a princess, i'll tell you that much.

but, onto a more realistic pipe dream (if there is such a thing)... i've spent today trying to figure out how i can quit my job and become a milliner. any tips?

p.s. getaway girl missed her flight this morning and is running a little behind schedule. she hopes she'll catch up with you later today.

here are six reasons i should've been born british...

eugenia kim.

i wish i could afford eugenia kim to outfit my head all the time...

suno.

gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. the embroidery detail on the top right dress? loving it.

minoux.

i'm back! i had a few technical difficulties and a little craziness at work, but i've got a whole week of vacation (staycation, that is) ahead of me to get things back in order. i'm predicting a week of fun hats and maybe a special island-bound getaway girl coming friday. hmm... but what island will it be? guess you'll need to stay tuned.

i was excited a few weeks ago when kristen of minoux got in touch with me about participating in a blogger style circle. i'd fallen head over heels for her spring line with its colors and shapes, so i jumped at the chance to know more.

and, not only was i flattered that kristen chose this little ol' greedy girl to be a part, i was humbled by the blog company she included me in. i mean, these bloggers have serious style. a couple were new to me, and a couple more were old favorites.

we all agreed on one necklace — the harmonic mean necklace — or a variation of it, and the inspiration began. i loved the turquoise cord (others chose to go the chain route) so my ideas automatically turned to fun pops of color throughout the outfit:

what do you think?

thanks so much to kristen for feeding my greed with gorgeous things (and, especially, for my new gorgeous necklace) and the other girls for taking part and offering their unique takes. check out what you missed on monday, and don't forget to check out the others during the rest of the week.

monday—my style pill and honey kennedy (new favorites)
tuesday—that's me (always a favorite)
wednesday—coco+kelley (old favorite)
thursday—where the lovely things are (new favorite)
friday—apartment 34 and squid (old favorites)

on friday, we'll be doing a tweet-up so follow me here to stay in the loop.

bona drag.

a couple things to add to my must-have-now list:

+ dress by to be adored
+ swimsuit by lover

thanks, bona drag, for making me need things i don't really, truly need.

super.

i want these so hard, i could cry. but how could i pick between the black and the liberty print? well, i guess the gods made up their minds for me—the liberty was super-exclusive and is all gone now.

i'd probably stick to the basics and keep it simple anyway.

who knows if i can get prescription lenses with them? because i think i deserve a treat.

getaway girl: indio, calif., for coachella.

getaway girl's back this week with a quick trip to top-tier music festival coachella. i'll be channeling the festival via a constant mumford & sons stream from the ipod. way less cool, but it'll do. for those of you lucky enough to go, have fun.

happy weekend, folks.

pretty x 2.

lemlem.

wouldn't you love to lounge all summer in these gauzy and bright dresses? the neon yellow is killing me, it's so pretty and bright.

have you heard of this line? it's created by supermodel liya kebede. the story behind it and the process of creating the textiles are pretty amazing.

tucker by gaby basora.

i'm still obsessing over gaby basora and her prints and patterns... so wearable and perfect.

alex & eli.

why yes, i will take that dress and that skirt.

club monaco.

a few looks to love from club monaco... especially that second one.

pergolina.

i'm really in love with this beautiful silk scarf.
