getaway girl: san antonio, texas.

this is one of those getaway girl posts that i hope doesn't offend. i can just see you san antonio girls yelling at the computer right now: what? this girl thinks we dress like this? all belt buckles and cowboy boots? she probably thinks we all listen to tejano music and do the mexican polka, too.

but, no, i don't think that. do i think you should? yes, maybe. because i'm insanely jealous of that crazy-rich mexican-american culture in san antonio. it's colorful and loud and really, really tasty.

there was a point in college when i made regular weekend trips to san antonio, and i loved everything about it. i lived in austin and the dallas area for much of my life growing up, but san antonio is completely different.

i constantly crave it. the food, the music, the color.

hope y'all have a nice weekend.

+ boots from santa fe's back at the ranch
+ mexican market bag (these have long been an obsession... psst, click that link for design hilarity)
+ paper flowers (wear one in your hair!)
+ belt from calypso st. barth
+ earrings from kyler by joy o
+ marc by marc jacobs dress
+ patsy cline for the road (there's really no huge texas connection here, but it seemed to work with everything else.)

cacharel.

well, these are just plain cruel. maybe there are six or so size 7s out there who'd like to split and share custody?

erin kleinberg.

perfectly springy, too-cool-for-school collection right here from designer erin kleinberg.

(found thanks to butter + brass.)

in the mood for... marc jacobs' spring prints.

i'm so very ready to break out of my sad, colorless winter rut. my printed summer dresses are beginning to taunt me from my clothes rack, my more colorful shoes are starting to sneak their way onto my feet, and i couldn't help painting my nails a perfect fuchsia last night.

who's with me? out with the cold and in with the sunshine?

these marc jacobs' perfect springy prints are from here and here. i'll take just one. please?

kind boutique.

ok, who's going to buy this crazy-fun vintage top so i don't have to*? someone? please?

*sorry. couldn't help myself. i'll let you know how it works out but i'll tell you now i won't be half as cute as this girl!

something else by natalie wood.

it took a second for me to be sure about this... but now? i'm head over heels for it. love the pretty little button detail in the back.

getaway girl: portland, ore.

i had a conversation last night with a friend of a friend about portland, and it piqued my interest. she described it as having great food and wine, which you know i'm all about. being a transplant from san francisco, though, she was less than thrilled about the shopping there — except for all the vintage, which she loves.

so i'm curious to hear what others have to say about the great pdx. i'd love to visit soon (like, i said: food! wine! and the ace hotel, of course) but would love to hear what you guys have to say, too.

and, if haven't heard all the business about 'portlandia' yet, you probably should. it looks kind of great. who knows if it might be available on itunes?

and now, here's the getaway girl look for the week. it has occurred to me that maybe i might offend someone with this series? so far, i haven't. but it's only my interpretation of how i see the city, whether i've been there or not. i tried not to get too grungy with this one.

+ boots from madewell
+ skinnies from topshop
+ top from alice + olivia (and for cheap!)
+ wolf belt buckle from alkemie (but i'd like the belt, too)
+ proenza schouler bag (who's tired of hearing about this from me?)
+ glasses by illesteva
+ 'either / or' from the late (and oh so great) portlander elliott smith

happy weekened, friends.

in the mood for... these looks from uzi.

they are perfect tops for spring.

(also in the mood for these specs from raen optics. in a hard way.)

diana eng.

i CANNOT wait for these to be restocked.

i kind of have an unexplainable love for (and am strangely superstitious about) fortune cookies, so you see why it's necessary that i have one.

i especially love that pebbled leather one, third from the right, but that's what makes these little designs from diana eng all the more special: she recycles bits of leather from here and there and lets you know exactly where your unique little cookie came from.

getaway girl: salt lake city.

there are two big reasons i wish i was jumping on a plane to salt lake city this weekend:

alt summit in downtown salt lake and the sundance film festival in nearby park city.

they both start next week, and i'm kicking myself for not being able to be there. if you aren't making it to alt this year, let's all promise to meet there next time, ok? i had the best time last year and promise you will, too.

here's an slc-inspired get-up for you... that ring! and (again) those boots!

+ sweater from topshop
+ the hotly debated sorel joan of arctic
+ geese-print bag by virginia johnson
+ black jeans from j brand
+ belt from toast
+ signet ring from conroy & wilcox
+ tank from victoria's secret

enjoy the weekend, friends.

minna.

loving everything lacy and dark from finnish designer minna hepburn, especially that one-sleeve number. i'd never take it off.

sorel.

eyeing these snuggly boots from sorel... would love a pair. hm. but which one?

ms. pomeranzev.

what kills me more than how adorable these frocks from moscow/london-based designer dasha pomeranzev are is that i didn't even know about ms. pomeranzev's shop until today.

she has adapted her own designs from 1950s styles and paired them with liberty prints, italian cottons and scottish tweeds. and the best part? oh, probably the CUSTOM-MADE bit:

We have adapted 50s models to reflect how women’s figures have changed in the following decades. Not all vintage dresses suit today’s women- they can be too full in the chest and too thin at the waist. Our dresses fit perfectly: the full dress slims the figure exactly where it needs to, the length makes your legs look longer.

yes, please, sign me up. special birthday dress for me? sounds perfect, i think.

getaway girl: positano, italy.

do you remember joanna's honeymoon in positano? since then, that dreamy seaside town has been very far at the top of my to-go list.

and, today, i'm really feeling the need to get away. so, inspired by positano (and these vintage beach shots — positano included), these finds are on my mind:

+ top from aubin & wills
+ paper bag trousers from topshop
+ sunhat from calypso st. barth
+ cuff by judith haas
+ clutch from lori's shoes
+ scarf by missoni, of course
+ shoes from see by chloe
+ swimsuit by diane von furstenberg

and, of course, when in rome — i mean, positano — pick up a vogue italia.

stay tuned next week for an alt-inspired getaway to salt lake city. sadly, i won't be there this year, but i hope to live vicariously through my favorite blog friends.

have a wonderful weekend, friends. ciao.

jonathan saunders.

told you i was in the mood for spring...

i'm counting down the months until some bold, poppy prints like these make their way back into my wardrobe cycle.

gillian tennant.

wonderfully easy looks from australian designer gillian tennant. wouldn't you love to make it all your summer uniform?

briar made.

ok, it's the fifth of january, and i've finally committed to a calendar.

i also think this dog bless print is the cutest.

(via mrs. pencil shavings' pin. are you on pinterest? come pin with me.)

cynthia rowley.

i'm back! i really apologize for the extra-long absence. i took advantage of the holidays and eeked just a couple extra days out of my blogging break... and i loved it. despite all that, i suppose i am pretty glad to be back.

now that the holidays are behind us, i've got spring on my mind. specifically these flowy looks from cynthia rowley. love the contrast of the soft chiffon with the blocked color and asymmetrical cuts in the dresses. (also shown: gorgeous blouse with a really great necklace and dress-up bandaids.)

i hope everyone had a great holiday and got to take a break for the computer, as well. it's definitely something i plan to do more of in 2011. speaking of, my resolutions also include: dressing like a grown-up. this essentially means being more polished and actually putting thought into my appearance.

i could go on and on about resolutions 1 through 94, but i'm more curious to hear yours. what's in store for you in this new year?
