getaway girl: kansas city.
i'm starting a new friday thing called 'getaway girl.' it's where i turn my wanderlust to greed with a special 'getaway' ensemble, something perfect for a weekend out of town.
today's getaway? a roadtrip to kansas city. ever since kate of cookie & kate shared her recent trip to kc, i've had a hankering to get back. and what better time than now for a little christmas shopping? greedy girl sponsor habitat shoes is in town. and, you shouldn't forget to stop by hammerpress and their amazing studio and shop. oh, and birdies — the best little lingerie shop. plus, the plaza's all lit up.
so, here's a look i'd love to rock on such a roadtrip.
+ current/elliott jeans from net-a-porter
+ democracy of nevermind faux fur vest
+ necklace from bario-neal
+ t-shirt from old navy
+ bag from zara
+ brogues from toast
+ david sedaris' 'holidays on ice' on cd (for the road... if you don't have this already, you're going to have to make that your no. 1 priority this weekend. dinah, the christmas whore? why wouldn't you want to be privy to that special holiday story?)
+ j.crew glitter belt from net a porter
p.s. take a look at the design*sponge kansas city design guide. i really recommend this city, guys. if you're in oklahoma city or tulsa, it's a short drive north — and completely worth it.
in the mood for... brogues.
the more i look at the first pair, the more i want. real hard.
then, of course, the green for those days when i'm feeling sassy.
greedy girl gift guide... for the beau (or bro, or dad).
1. japanese whiskey
2. bike from public
3. axe
4. disposable flasks (brilliant)
5. shirt from woolrich
6. wallet from makr carry goods
7. lobel's meat bible and this is npr: the first forty years from chronicle books (use promo FRIEND for 35 percent off and free shipping on all books, through dec. 5)
8. whiskey cologne by portland general store
9. briefcase by moore & giles
10. turntable from urban outfitters
other 2010 gift guides so far (more to come!): for the francophile and for the dogs (or really confused cat).
envi.
i'm not usually a fan of such abstract patterns in clothing, but i love the draped neck in front and (especially) the cutout in back of this dress.
hope.
why are perfect trousers so hard to come by? do i need to travel all the way to sweden to find them?
taylor house.

i'll be the first to admit that the last thing i need is another scarf. but want? i really, really want one of these pretty knit cowls from etsy shop taylor house.
taylor house designer chaucee, whose super-active blogging (here and here) puts me to shame, is saving up to study in israel in the spring. every cowl sold helps her in her pursuits abroad. so? what are you waiting for? go help a girl out. at $35-40ish apiece, they'd make some easy and awfully nice holiday gifts for some of your favorite girls.
(impromptu) greedy girl gift guide... for the francophile.
happy thanksgiving.
i'll be back on friday with a few pretty finds, then back next monday to continue the greedy girl gift guides.
i hope all my american readers have a lovely thanksgiving. i'm excited (and thankful) to not be working for the first time in five years.
thanks to all of you for reading and supporting greedy girl.
if you haven't already, you've got til the end of the day to enter the giveaway for a beautiful photo calendar from lesley sico.
(marilyn monroe via here.)
michelle armas.
i didn't participate in the calendar swap since there ended up being a perfectly even number of people. so? i think i owe myself. and so i want this. because it's nothing short of stunning.
have you gotten your calendar yet?
(via simple lovely.)
greedy girl gift guide.
clockwise from top left:
1. tent* from wagwear
2. t-shirt from sckoon
3. turkey dinner** from target
4. cookies from land of paws
5. dog 'stache by humunga
6. ceramic bowl from bauer pottery company
7. collar from mascot
8. sock monkey from fun time dog shop
*technically, we've tried the "tent" thing and our pugs were not impressed. i like to think that if we spent $200 on one, they might change their minds.
**the only gifts i've gotten this year are these dinners-on-a-plate we found at target. apparently they've made the blog rounds lately and sound like they might be hard to come by, so i'm glad we picked them up when we did. luke will get the turkey dinner (with roll, corn on the cob, greens of some sort and a baked potato), while margo will get the lobster dinner (same sides, plus a lemon). i'm doing my best to not get them from the top of the refrigerator (where the pugs can't find them — we pretend like they are children. and smart. and a lot taller than they are.) and play with them myself.
lauren moffatt.
if ever there was a dress i had to have...
(via svpply, which i'll admit now is going to make me a lazy blogger/seeker of fantastic things.)
p.s. you've got until the end of the day to enter the giveaway for a pair of hansel from basel tights, courtesy of kind boutique. you know what to do.
wilfred.

who wants to fill her closet with all of these? i do. and her hair is so pretty, too.
(via we shall not cease from exploration)

some things i wouldn't mind in my closet...
i found a similar sweatshirt-style dress at target today, but i have to stalk all the other stores to get my size. loved it. (and didn't find it online but it's part of the converse line.)

calypso st. barth.

it's ridiculous, but this hat is at the top of my winter wishlist. i'll take the other things, too.
leah duncan. (+calendar swap update.)
love this one. (via size too small.)
if you signed up for the calendar swap, you should have received your swapmate's details last week. if you haven't yet or if you have any questions, just get in touch with kelly or me. we ended up with a little over 130 swappers from all over. we saw lots of you from all over... mostly americans, as was expected, but still a lot from other places, especially australia and spain. thanks to everyone who signed up, and we hope you have a fun time picking out (and getting!) a new calendar.
fancy french cologne.

five reasons to fall in love with new-to-me shop (thanks, kate), fancy french cologne.
1. amazing funktional dress. you saw the zipper front? and racerback back?
2. triangle top from tulle and blouse from line & dot.
3. purposely holey sweater from cheap monday. have i mentioned that i go through sweaters likeTHAT because my elbows are so pointy? or, really, just my left elbow. it's a shame. this sweater, though? it rocks. and the model's kind of kick ass tatt makes it that much cooler.
4. stripey, gathery dress from aryn k. easy.
5. silky, backless dress from funktional. can they do no wrong?
