wintercheck factory. (+ a calendar swap update.)

you've seen 'a league of their own,' right? i hope you have. it's easy enough to draw inspiration from the 40s frocks and coiffures (think 'all the way mae'), but i've always loved geena davis' character's style at the very beginning.

and this line reminds me of that. inspired by women's workwear during world war II, the pieces are all made in limited runs — and cost under $100.

please sign me up. and call me rosie.

...

a calendar swap update... i got through about half of the pairings before falling asleep (so many of you signed up!). so if you haven't yet gotten the e-mail with your swapmate's details, give me one more day.

i also want to say thank you to everyone who signed up. there were nearly 130 participants from all over the world. also thank you to ms. design crush for co-hosting the swap with me again.

cursive design.

hope everyone had a happy halloween weekend... i did. lots of candy, zombies and relaxing. and how was yours? did you have a wonderfully unique costume? if so, take a second and tell me about it.

really coveted necklace here... another by cursive design.

a calendar a day every so often: alex wijnen.

i know. a calendar a day turned into a-calendar-a-day-for-a-week-then-more-like-a-calendar-a-week. i have a feeling you guys already sniffed out the good ones yourselves.

but here's one more, a sweet illustrated one from pdx-er alex wijnen.

now... two more days. that's all i'll say.

happy thursday. (+ a really, really important calendar swap reminder.)

love these updated takes on utilitarian classics... don't you? i've had my eye on that bridge & burn castle coat for a while now. and the seavees offshore boots are pretty right, too. and, ok... i'll take the timex watch from j.crew while i'm at it.

now, that really, really important calendar swap reminder i promised:

if you haven't signed up yet for the calendar swap, i know exactly who you are. exactly. who. you. are. so go sign up now. and why not tell a friend or two to do the same? or, heck, even better... spread the news on your blog or twitter. i'll make it easy for you — here's a short url: http://bit.ly/aWHM08. copy. paste. tweet. voila. everyone's happy in 2011.

have YOU signed up yet?

guyssss...

you've only got a few more days to join in the calendar swap fun. nearly 100 of you from all over the world have signed up already, but kelly and i know some of you are holding out.

now is the time. right now. we want to hear from you.

p.s. have you heard genius alec baldwin's npr pledge drive promos? i like him. he is funny.

erica weiner.

this ring is made from an antique wax seal (hence the backwardsness of the words) and dotted with a tiny orange sapphire. isn't it sweet?

also, i think these victor hugo cufflinks are kind of awesome.

happy monday.

i picked up this sweater cape for an amazing $16 this weekend at old navy. you heard right. sixteen.

if i could wear it with all of the following, i know for sure i'd never wear anything else... the shoes (sessun), the levi's, the suede bag (with tiny perforations that i adore), the braided belt, the cuff by dream collective, and the chanel polish in khaki brun.

near perfection, yes?

sessun.

not only are these images a feast for the eyes, the music on the site starts with mazzy star. talk about setting the mood perfectly. actually, all of it makes for a pretty good monday morning mix.

and, the clothes, of course... those are quite right, too. tres chic*.

*my limited french and trying to navigate their lovely site reminded me i need to get back into my rosetta stone. i'm so glad it's finally fall and i feel like doing things again... summer bums me out, man. i'm ready to learn!

net-a-porter.

i'll leave you for the week with some of these net-a-porter pretties. sigh. i know i say this a lot, but if i could... i'd love to own completely unreasonable amounts of silky beauties like these. there'd be no more wal-mart panties and target bras. i'm pretty sure it'd make me a much better person, too.

a calendar a day, no. 9: seesaw letterpress.

LOVE LOVE LOVE.

(via for me, for you.)

PSSSST. don't forget to sign up for the calendar swap. it needs you.

zara.

i know, i know. nothing new here, but i had to share my favorites. i wish i could pull that second look off without looking like a librarian (the bad, stereotypical kind).

also... do you know how much i wish cable-knit shorts were in my future?

now, let's discuss how i can make that hair happen.

zara (baby).

baaaabies.

sorry (joe). i can't help it. everyone's having them!

a calendar a day, no. 8: kate spade.

a kate spade wall calendar that comes in UNDER the calendar swap rules and regulations' suggested value? you might need to pick up something for yourself, too.

my apologies for a calendar a day turning into more like a calendar every four days. good thing design crush is on top of her game... we'll piggyback off her calendar roundups to get caught up.

PSSSST. don't forget to sign up for the calendar swap. it needs you.

kate spade.

smart black trench and chic jeans with PINK stitching... i am a fan.

dear creatures.

loving how dark and vintage-inspired these looks are from dear creatures.

and how about this cape? yes, thanks, i'll take it.

a calendar a day, no. 6: camilla engman.

it may be my favorite so far.

PSSSST. don't forget to sign up for the calendar swap. it needs you.

peggy wolf.

sorry! i got started on her work and couldn't stop...

plus, i was happy to see these new-to-me prints. don't you love them?

amyclaire.

so much in love with the work of brooklyn designer amy mccormick. wouldn't you love to rock this top every day? or throw on these pretty pleats for your next party? i would. i'd also like that model's fiona apple looks, but beggars can't be choosers, can they?

check out swirl's sample sale of amyclaire wares next tuesday. don't forget to mark your calendars — and sign up for swirl if you haven't yet!

a calendar a day, no. 5: peggy wolf.

i've always liked peggy wolf's illustrations, so i'm kind of stoked to see a calendar from her.

paul & joe.

when i first saw thise crazy green and white sequined number, i wasn't so sure. then five seconds passed. and now? i've never been more sure of anything. if i was a size 0 AND i had three grand just hanging around waiting to be spent on a crazy green and white sequined number... well, you know how it goes.

and, to be clear, i'd also take any of the other three. they aren't so bad either. that oaxacan-esque dress is muy bonita, what with those sleeves and all.

little paul & joe.

i love how margot-and-richie-tenenbaum-in-the-african-wing-of-the-public-archives these are.

p.s. what's your favorite movie? 'tenenbaums' is mine (with 'rushmore' coming in really close behind that).

PSSSST. don't forget to sign up for the calendar swap. it needs you.

a calendar a day, no. 4: beau ideal.

just gorgeous. (click the second image to see better detail.)

which month is your favorite? july and october are tied in my book.

PSSSST. don't forget to sign up for the calendar swap. it needs you.

a calendar a day, no. 3: zoo calendar.

die-cut animals? you really can't go wrong.

cursive design.

this party on a necklace would improve my mood on so many days, i am sure of it.

(spotted on we shall not cease from exploration. i am looking forward to baked goods, warm liquids and movie nights, as well.)

PSSSST. don't forget to sign up for the calendar swap. it needs you.

bcbg.

there are no words.

a calendar a day, no. 2: hammerpress.

every year, i'm always a fan.

whit.

these are some great looks by up-and-coming new york brand whit, but it's this feathery headpiece that is really sticking in my mind. where can i find that?

and ok, i'll take the dress and the sweater, too. if i have to. and, while we're at it, how about we throw in this entire look.

have you heard about the girl behind whit? i like her story. nothing fancies up a texas grad's bio like "the sorbonne" and "parsons." oh, the design background with kate spade and steven alan isn't bad either.

go team whit. i'll be watching out for more. but hopefully next time, you'll hook us up with some feathers of our own.
