it's a mad mad mad mad world.

i have yet to watch mad men (waiting to borrow someone's first season), so i carefully avoid any plot news like the plague (or nauseating cloud of cigarette smoke, in this case).

but when it comes to those dresses and those updos (and, let's be honest, dapper men in skinny suits and ties), it's really hard to just say no.

so when i was tipped off to these nobody's sweetheart illustrations for sale as prints or t-shirts, i was immediately drawn (ha, get it) in. if that's not enough, head to said illustrator's flickr photostream for more. or, even, her blog, which is funny and will take up even MORE of your time without you realizing it.

this may be the dorkiest post ever, but here goes.

my travel (and love) mate has this bag in yellow, and i want it for myself.

my weekender bags are these awkward things i bought back before our first trip together. we went to cape cod, and i thought the bags were so cape cod.

now, they're so not comfortable or convenient. they make packing a bitch and are not nice to my shoulders.

so i'm looking for something easier and more throw-it-in-the-bag casual.

this is where ll bean comes in. particularly, this bag.

only, obviously, i can't get have it in the same color. because he already has it.

so, green. what do you think? or maybe i like royal. or even navy.

and i think large is the way to go. (there's also medium — a carry-on size — and extra large, so this is actually medium.)

any reader suggestions on all of this? i know you're very concerned about me making the right decision.

UPDATE: on second thought (four seconds later) he doesn't have the rolling duffle, i don't think. but maybe i want that. although the non-rolling variety is amazingly cheap.

after seeing tom hanks rocking a pair of clear frames at the emmys, i decided it was time to get really serious about finding some specs of my own.

thankfully, cat tipped me off to a mighty good resource: zenni optical.

skeptical about any pair of glasses (prescription, no less) that doesn't set me back at least a few hundred dollars, i did some research.

i came across this article in slate, which pretty much sealed the deal for me. (i mean, if slate says it's legit, it must be legit, right?)

among other online specs shops are 39dollarglasses.com and eyebuydirect.com (the least janky of the sites).

my favorites (the top right and bottom left) are $19 and $39, respectively. yeah. amazing.

halloween fun!

halloween is on my mind all year long. i'm always looking for inspiration for costumes. sadly, when october rolls around, i've forgotten most of what i came up with. this year, i was very careful to keep track of these important things.

joe and i have always (in our two super wonderful years) done the couple costume thing (bear/bear attack boy scout; robot lovers) because it's way more fun that way and it keeps us relevant.

so i'm always pitching ideas to him.

among them for this year, angela chase, as seen above. this would be pretty great and fun, not to mention super-easy to come up with. joe would be jordan catalano, natch.

then, we have the always-fun cancan dancer:

the boy, of course, would be toulouse lautrec. for whatever reason, he's not into it, though. i told him that the monsieur was a result of inbreeding, that he liked to hit the sauce and that he died from syphilis, but still – he's not big on the idea. sounded like a pretty fun costume to me.

i've been on the lookout for a nice buttery leather version for some time now but can't seem to find one for under $1800. but for these sleeves and a removable hood? it may be time to settle.
