kansas city: needing your tips!
anyone know of any hip:
anyone know of any hip:
i really thought i'd save my 1000th post for something special.
but, no.
this is it.
and i'm angry. and tired.
via erin roddy's flickr photostream.
to help me forget i am at work at 4:15 in the effing morning. i am not even kidding.
despite all my rage*, i'm loving the acorn and pinecone** bracelets. they remind me of my sweetie and are nicely priced. i think i prefer the pinecone. yes, i do. yes, yes, pinecone. hint, hint.

j.crew, of course.
*bet you thought i was going to go all billy corgan on you, didn't you?
**at first i typed pinecorn. i sat and stared at it and couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong. do you see why being at work at this hour is a problem?
does anyone remember a couple months back when someone (a blog? a magazine?) featured a girl whose entire wardrobe was just made up of grays? it was her thing, and a few years before, she had an entirely turquoise (i think?) closet?
i've searched a dozen times through my google reader but can't find her anywhere.
so anyway, i loved the idea and it made me want to go all gray (or at least all neutral) for fall and winter. i love colorful clothes way too much to do it year-round, but i thought i could handle it for 4 or 5 months.
if i had the money to start an entirely new wardrobe, i'd start with james perse. i'm completely infatuated with the dresses below and would even consider wearing only those all the time (with boots! with flats! with tights! with love!) if they wouldn't set me back $200 apiece.

what are your thoughts on a singularly colored wardrobe? you think you'd get tired of it?
i'm not certain i would. plus, i kind of like the idea of having a uniform for work. it would solve a lot of problems and would let you go crazy with colorful and shiny accessories.
(click to make biiig)
i'm pretty sure i need these things really, really bad.
well, at least the shoes. i actually think my health would be better if i owned them.
ALSO... get 30 percent off (thanks, daily candy!) by entering DCCR at checkout.
AND... while you're saving big, go ahead and pick this up for me (it's on sale, so double score for you):and, a couple of these:
and, then, don't forget my love for this. i'll blow bubbles for you!
loving these two looks from makool's fall collection.
oh, and these (especially the wishbone!):
p.s. they're also offering custom gowns!
head over to the poster list, where right now you can get any two posters, including this fun take on 'keep calm and carry on,' for $20. not bad!
my favorites: love bird, beautiful music and love from paris.
thanks to adam for letting me know about the deal, which doesn't run for much longer (someone's been behind on e-mail all week)... so take advantage!
new york is one of the few things for which i've held a sad, sad obsession since i was a wee one. i try not to gush about it since i did so for like two years straight and it only annoyed everyone and got me nowhere.
today i read this, which made me again feel the itch. the oldest person interviewed was 26. i'll be 26 in january. is my to-be-young-in-new-york window closing? what a sad thought.
luckily (?), i think 'sex and the city' and 'you've got mail' (biggest guilty pleasure) are more my style*. they offer a fairly good dose of the city without having to actually be poor and lonely (that would be my case if i were there).
also, to tide me over... the other day i saw the trailer for 'new york, i love you', and it looks just about perfect. excited about (!): ethan hawke, natalie portman. not so much: hayden christenson (though he looks tolerably cute here), rachel bilson.
better not get pushed back from february.
NOW i'm off to read the new york fall fashion issue, which finally arrived today.
p.s. other (non-new york) movies on my mind lately:
... 'vicky cristina barcelona' (really, really good! made me want to be in spain. i'm easily influenced. speaking of, javier bardem is on a conan rerun right now. yum.)
... 'smart people' (carrie is un-carrie; thomas haden church is fantastic as always; ellen page is still adorable.)
*HOWEVER, if ever you're offering up your couch for a week, just let me know. i'll deliver you coffee every morning in return.
thanks to the talented kelsi of stylesmith for offering this sweet deal for greedy girl readers!
simply mention the blog when you check out (through sept. 30), and voila, you're 15 percent richer (well, not really, but it's kind of a nice way to think about things).
i'd love to snatch one up, and with everything under $29, it'll hopefully happen soon!
together, now: thank you, kelsi!
beautiful photo by wendy whitacre of blue lily photography, who also shot these beauties of the nielson family.
i'd like to break from my usual self-absorbed 'i want this and that and this' spiel to make sure you know about the good will underway for stephanie nielson and family.
stephanie and her husband recently were severely injured in a private plane crash. they have four adorable little children (and, as jordan pointed out, they've all got different colored hair!) and have months of recovery ahead of them.
well wishes are going on all over the blogosphere, but here are a couple of good places to start if you'd like to help out: the ladies at coveiter are auctioning off a 4-month ad, and oh happy day also has a slew of other auctions starting today.
i'd love to join in on the auction action, but i'm sitting here looking around my apartment, and there's not a thing anyone could possibly need. i wish the family my best and offer kudos to the blogging community for pulling together for such a cause.
read about these slips in today's daily candy and could not not post about them. you know i'm a fool for feathers and frill.
oh sweet slip, how can i make thee mine?
your slip is showing, $300
you may remember when i was lusting after these minnetonkas*.
well, i won the auction (ended up at like $55 total. not bad!) and since then, the boots have just been sitting here staring at me, mocking my indecisiveness on what to wear them with.
so, now i pass that dilemma onto you.
what would you wear them with?
for the first time in months, i turned off my air conditioner, thanks to a beautifully bleary day (or couple of days) and am jonesin' for some fall ensembles. i really want to break these out before rachel zoe decides they're not hot anymore (though – to toot my own horn – i did take a likin' to them before i knew they were all the rage. toot toot).
well, get to it! skirts or skinny jeans or what? help!
*excuse the jank photo. i wanted a nice clean shot of them (the better to polyvore!), but can't find a green pair anywhere on the web, so i photoshopped them to the desired color. and, yes, i'm lazy so the soles & laces are green too.
i'm still feeling a serious need for these clear-frame glasses. i tried on a similar pair last night, which was a bad idea because it soon had me considering selling my body for glasses (i know. what a dork i am).

these are from oliver peoples, and the top two (danver and larrabee) are my favorite.
as a member of the press, i would never dare publicly advocate for one party or candidate.
but, i just can't help it when good design and politics mix. so, i bring you these obama buttons, which print liberation* put out some time ago.
head over to moveon.org to request a free button, or chip in for a few (or 45).
once payday rolls around (see how poor i am? i can't even afford buttons), i'll be springing for a few more (especially that smiley face) from the shop.
p.s. remember when you were in love with shawn hunter from boy meets world? yeah, me too. well, if you've been wondering where he's been, look no further.
*still my favorite t-shirt.
if i had all the money in the world, my head would never go unadorned. and i'd start with these.
from charm school design.
from stylesmith.
from whichgoose. (newspaper designers holla!)
rarely do i get so excited about anything bearing the juicy label, but i thought these were some really fun fall looks!

yum, yum, yum. i'm loving me some of this:

from san francisco's house of hengst. holly, i foresee a trip to the mission in our future.
via a cup of jo.
spotted at the dave matthews concert last night.
i wear some wacky shoes sometimes, and i'm fairly knowledgeable of weirdo 'high fashion' things. but this is beyond me.
so wtf?
you tell me.
head to flickr, type in the year you were born and choose your favorite.
i was really torn between scary rabbits and children photos (this one too) and bros at the beach.
ultimately i chose these fun-loving ladies.
and what would i be if i wasn't relevant? you, too, can own this look: cropped t-shirt (good blog find) and ubiquitous running shorts (remember, wear 'em high). you're welcome. don't forget your rush hat (that one's for izaak).
via for me, for you.
i'm very happy today with old navy for having these lovely yellow mocs in actual suede for less than $25.
the rest are pretty sweet, too.
old navy, $25
saw the work of ryan berkley on apartment therapy and was smitten.
animals in clothes? how distinguished, i say.
berkley illustration, (most seem to be $7 or $15. hi, cheap, right?)
know of something i might like, have a product you'd like featured or just want to send me lovely things?
just e-mail me at cd@iamagreedygirl.com.
