a giveaway: nippies by bristols6.

hey, girls. remember that one time in 10th grade when you were really cold and walked into coach davis' biology, and all the boys noticed how uneven your nipples were (and you've been a little paranoid ever since)?

you could have used nippies then.

hey, tara and janet. remember that one time you thought you wore a functioning outfit but then your entire boob plopped out?

you could have used nippies then.

the team at bristols6 sent over a set of superstars for me to tryout, and they are so fantastic and fun!

so old hollywood glamour, so dita von teese.

i'd love to complete the look with a satin top hat, some frilly panties and a wand, and then frolic about.

BUT enough about me.

what about you – has there been a time when life would have been much easier (or less mortifying) if you had armed yourself with a pair of nippies?

shoot me an e-mail and let me know how these could have come in handy for you in the past.

i'll randomly choose three lucky ladies (or, shall i say, six?) and they will receive a set of nippies, courtesy of bristols6.

feel free to leave your story in the comments as well, but don't forget to e-mail me. that's how i'll draw the names. three of them. next monday, the 28th. enter by 5 p.m. cst.

now, get to thinking! and good luck!

old navy summer sandals.

it really doesn't get any better than these cheap sandals and flip flops from old navy. and never more than $20. jennifer, i'm talking to you!

i bought the bottom black pair and wear them lots, though they aren't the best-looking on my white feet.

next up is the yellow pair in the middle, then many a pair of those printed flip flops (love those prints).

hurrah for 80 degree weather!

help me out!

2 things:

first, send me some links to pretty flickr accounts. i have the worst time finding lovely photos. please? some of you bloggers come up with the most inspiring things and i quite often come up with photos of rocks. not even the pretty kind.

second, is there anyone out there planning to attend the stationery show next month? if you are and aren't already blogging (i know, good luck to me) and would be interested in keeping us up to date on pretty finds, please let me know! i won't pay you, but i'll look upon you kindly.

merci beaucoup!

i win! rakku shoe pod.

thanks so much to the ladies at coveiter. i am the lucky winner of a rakku shoe pod.

if you know me or have ever been to my house, you know that shoe storage is something i constantly struggle with. i've started just leaving shoes at the boyfriend's to lessen the problem at my place.

this contest has inspired me to tackle the challenge right away and make some room for my new toy! i'll post pictures when it comes!

thanks again, lindsey and julie!

i am supposed to be in a strict no spending routine, but i'm having a hard time getting the hang of it.

so, this weekend, i bought this bag. and some sangria. and cheap gap goods. definitely not a big baller's weekend, but i wasn't supposed to spend a cent.

what didn't i spend money on? a handful of credit cards, my electric bill, student loans, groceries.

i am trying to follow how the budget fashionista got out of debt, but not buying things is so depressing. so depressing, you're really forced to buy things.

do you have any suggestions for living financially responsible?

psa: save a dog.

a warning: i'll try my best to not get all preachy on you, but i can't make promises. oh, also, this gets pretty long.

last weekend i found a sweet little border collie mix just running out into traffic, and i thought oh how sad.

so home she came with me. she got along famously with luke (i know, i know, stray dogs shouldn't play with my dogs... i know that now*), and we took pictures and made signs. she was very sweet and well behaved and obviously belonged to someone.

we hung up the signs in the area she was found, and she stayed the night in the boyfriend's yard. i called animal control to have her picked up the next morning because, naively, i thought she could at least stay there until her owners called. the animal control man told me she'd be adopted in a hurry.

but i called that monday to check up on her. i told them i wanted to make sure she wouldn't be put down, and they said they couldn't guarantee that. i told them she was healthy, well behaved and very sweet. but they told me they already have plenty of healthy, well behaved and sweet dogs, and not enough room to keep them. i asked what would be the earliest she would be euthanized. thursday, they told me.

so wednesday i went down to the shelter (most depressing place ever) to id her and file adoption papers. i was so relieved when i finally found her in the back row of the third room i checked, and she was relieved to see me, as well. it would be a week before i could come back for her, so that she could be spayed. sounded great. and, i had even found her a nice home already.

but the next day i got a call saying she couldn't be adopted because she was diagnosed with parvo and would have to be euthanized. and she was, on saturday.

that's really the end of the story. but the moral of this story is please, PLEASE get your pet spayed or neutered and keep them up to date on vaccinations. an animal shelter is no place for any living thing to be, especially in the last days of their lives.

the oklahoma city animal shelter is working toward being a no-kill shelter by 2010. they're a long way from that. last year, 28,000 animals went to the shelter, and 19,000 didn't come out. it's an awful, awful place filled with lovely dogs that would make lovely pets.

if you've never been to a city animal shelter, it really is like the david duchovny pedigree commercials. only hundreds of times more painful.

the photos above are by traer scott and are from his book, 'shelter dogs.' (not only does he shoot wonderful photos of dogs, his editorial work is pretty outstanding, as well. you can even buy prints.)

*luckily, both my luke and the boyfriend's margo were up to date on their parvo vaccinations.

Our eco-friendly tote bags are made from 80% recycled cotton and 20% old soda bottles. So whether you're bringing home groceries or packing up for the beach, you can feel as good as you look. Each bag measures 18"L x 14"H x 5"W and is printed on both sides.

style question: safari shirt dress.

hi, all.

i bought this dress from old navy several weeks ago but have yet to wear it. i'd like to be able to wear it to work but it's shorter than what i'd normally wear and, therefore, in my opinion, needs some tights or something underneath (yay stifling dress environment).

my dilemma is this: it's a so-called safari dress. in most parts of the world, safari means tanned legs, which means no tights. so, how can i pull off tights without making it look completely wrong?

colors? textures?

i'd appreciate any help.

i love the fit of the dress, which is not common for me, so i don't want to give it up!

any suggestions?

either/or convertible sofa.

so, i've been out of college for a handful of years now but still don't have a sofa (i mention this a lot, yes). i live in a studio space and don't do much there besides sleep. and i rarely watch tv (when i do, it's from bed).

but there's a part of me that desperately longs to curl up on the sofa with a pillow and a pug and watch a movie. i do this plenty at the boyfriend's and it feels so right, but i'd love to have this at my own place.

i'm either in bed or sitting at the computer. not so homey.

i've had my eye on this sofa from urban for a bit and would really like to have it. it's small and inexpensive, which would keep me from clinging onto it when my home is finally a grown-up space.

plus, it would serve as a place to sleep for all those weekend guests i have.

dress of my dreams + fabulous photog.

one. can we talk about this dress? i'm not getting married, but kind of feel like i should go ahead and get one of my own. just in case. that tulle. those colors. that dress. think of how right a pair of louboutins would look with it. so right.

two. i can't go on and on about the dress (but oh! the dress!) without mentioning the quite lovely photography of aaron delesie. this is only a bit from hillary & joe's wedding (& i apologize for the cropping... i just wanted to get my favorite bits in). there is plenty more eye-candy for all (try eryin and harry).

you're in luck, west coast ladies, because that's where you'll find mr. delesie. but watch out, there's a bit of colin farrell about him. rrrah.

provence cutaway one-piece.

NEED. THIS. NOW.

i know i went on a huge rant about my little ladies not fitting into any normal bathing suit top but i promise to lose all the weight it takes to get them into this beauty.

see the detail!

i love it so much i'm nearly on the verge of tears.

i've decided that, as a compromise between a one-piece and a bikini, i could go with one of these cutaway suits. i would rather my stomach not be shown, but i don't have a single problem with my back. in fact, i love it.

so a cutaway would be perfect.

i mean, THIS cutaway would be perfect.

at least it would be a little less pressure to get my entire body swimsuit-ready.

if anyone's feeling generous, i'd take a large. get in touch, and i'll gladly send along my address. i'll even pitch in for shipping. and send a sweet thank-you note.

and, if you're just a creep, i might be desperate enough to send a provocative picture.

stumbled upon these ultra-adorable photos of zooey deschanel and got all excited about summer and the beach. not so much about bathing suits, which is unfortunate because i've got to do some serious looking this year.

what are your favorite shops for swim suits? j.crew was always a fave in my teens, but since my boobs are approaching the size of weather balloons (thanks, weight gain!), my top options there are pretty limited.

a whale of a story.

ok, i'll share a story with you because i think it's the funniest kid story ever.

...

i was in preschool in austin (*key part of story) when my teacher decided to tell us a story about a little girl named jessica who fell in a whale. yes, a whale. unbelievable, i know. i mean, a WHALE? but yeah, she just fell right in. what an exciting trip, i bet!

so here we are, my little class of kids, illustrating this crazy story we've just heard. except all the other kids' drawings were WAY off - their whales looked like holes. as you can tell, i was pretty artistically advanced for my age. how dumb those kids were. no one was going to look at their pictures and think 'whoa! that girl's in a whale.'

...

and, that is how i came to learn about baby jessica and the well (or whale, if you're a crazy preschool teacher with a crazy texas accent).

and, here, is some more whale fun for the night:

madewell 1937.

thanks to kate at for me, for you for bringing madewell 1937, a new concept store by j.crew, to my attention.

there are some looks i'd love to own, namely the buffalo plaid business above. i might even consider shelling out the $62 for it and wearing until it was threadbare (the more wear, the better).

but, as far as some of the other looks go, i think i'd rather stick with $15 tops from forever21. or the sale section at j.crew.

i still can't afford a regular shop at j.crew, so if madewell 1937 is meant for those younger than myself, think again, folks.

marc jacobs splash.

i had always been tempted by the grass and rain varieties of marc jacobs splash editions but somehow staved off the temptation. after all, i hadn't splashed myself since the junior high days of sun-ripened raspberry (don't judge – you know you kept a bottle in your locker).

but last year i couldn't resist the cucumber edition... which i still have a nearly full bottle of though i used it quite liberally all summer. it comes in a massive glass bottle (mason-esque jar would be more appropriate) and i completely recommend it. so, so, so heavenly.

so now that i've gotten myself all excited about that one again (ah, sigh), i've discovered that dear mister jacobs has a new arsenal of delightful smellies: basil, pear and grapefruit. grapefruit! the. best. fragrance. ever.
