cheap vintage!

i love every bit of this look (especially the dark tights and bag), but the skirt is so pretty in a i-said-i'd-never-wear-a-choir-dress-again-but-hey kind of way.

anissa, of indieshopping.com, has launched femminastyle vintage, and this is among her many finds. the prices, as well as so many of the pieces, are so, so right.

and, through aug. 27, she's offering 30 percent off the entire shop.

so, go! go now!

ah, septiembre.

i got the first of my september magazines today – marie claire (with the tiny and gorgeous ashley olsen...forgive the creepy site) – and i'm so excited for more. it hadn't even occurred to me that it was time for fall magazines. so, yay.

i've gotten out of the habit of wearing heels to work on most days, which is something i'm sure won't fly when summer ends.

confessions.

i strolled into abercrombie this weekend for the first time in probably five years.

it was a pretty bold step since i normally make a strong effort to avoid the store.

the mix of club music and lumberjack plaid doesn't make sense to me. plus, the shiny, white salespeople can be pretty intimidating to the disgruntled post-grad who's put on the pounds since freshman year.

but, this time, i put on a happy face, sucked in my tummy and marched on in. and it actually was not that bad.

it made me reminiscent of the annual back-to-school shopping ritual... loading up on wool sweaters and corduroy pants in august, fully knowing it wouldn't be cool enough to wear them for at least a couple more months. ah, youth...

so anyway, yes, my point is this... this visit to prepville wasn't all too disappointing. i found this vest, which i really have to have, despite its name (my apologies to any readers).

then i made it over to j.crew, where i discovered this hoodie to perfectly complement the vest and renew my hopes that this horrible, hot weather will end.

summertime in oklahoma... lovely.

these are great.

more brocade...

this little table makes me want to quit my job and read manuscripts and drink arancita all day (while falling asleep frequently on this). and covered in a cashmere throw. oh, also, there may be a fireplace.

pretty + new at brocade.

yes, i could have presented these in a more cohesive fashion. but i didn't.

the new brocade home catalog is out, and i couldn't be more excited. since they debuted maybe a year ago (?), there haven't been many updates. but now... tons of fantastic things.

this tufted sofa i need...

this bed i am so in love with...

if there was one thing in the catalog i would actually consider starving myself to afford, it would be this console unit... luckily (and unluckily), it is probably the least expensive thing here.
and this foiled wallpaper... so, so pretty. and i really like that picture and frame. actually, i iron my linens in a set-up quite similar to this.

warning: political themes follow.

i am no al gore, but i do try my best to 'reduce, reuse, recycle,' 'save the animals,' etc.

and it does kind of piss me off that swaths (understatement) of forests are being cut down daily across the world, leaving poor little animals without homes.

so i don't feel so 'hey, look at me, i'm green' by pointing out this shirt.

(though i wish i could endorse the 'i don't eat animals' message, but i can't. maybe if they made a 'i admit i sometimes do eat animals, but i'm not proud of it and really wish i could stop' version? the shirts are all very cool. i love the colors and i love the type, but i can't preach what i don't practice.)

the trees shirt, though... i'm safe on that.

[funny sidenote: one time when i was a wee girl scout, my troop went to a rhino preserve to plant weeping willows. my mom and i missed the memo about bringing a seedling and somehow managed to get a 5-foot-tall tree in our car. ah, memories. in hindsight, that should have been rewarded with a superbig-tree badge.]

new things!

lady locher has added to her accessories collection.

these two things are my favorites, thanks in part to my affinities for postcard collecting (i'd love you to send me one!) and vulgarity.

a refresher course: i am still completely enamored with this top. why do i not yet have it? i have no good reason now, considering...
